UTEP beats FIU at home for second conference win
The UTEP men’s basketball team got a much-needed win Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center, beating FIU by a final of 72-68.
UTEP improved to 7-11 overall and 2-4 in Conference USA with the win. The Miners had entered the day tied for the worst record in league play before holding on for a big win at home.
The Miners held FIU to just 18 points in the first half and built a 12-point lead by the break.
FIU came alive in the second half scoring 50 points, but the Miners’ 42 in the second half were enough to secure the victory.
Isiah Osborne paced UTEP with 21 points and added 7 rebounds in the win. Evan Gilyard provided a spark off the bench with 14 points in 20 minutes of action.
UTEP only shot 3-18 from beyond the arc, but managed to hold FIU to 4-21 shooting from deep.
UTEP will next play at UTSA on Saturday, Jan. 20.
