Former Texas QB/WR Kai Locksley commits to UTEP

A former Texas Longhorns recruit says he is on his way to UTEP to continue his career.

Kai Locksley was a highly-touted high school quarterback from Maryland who chose Texas back in 2015. Locksley was rated a four-star prospect coming out of high school by several publications.

But the Longhorns moved him to wide receiver where he was then buried on the depth chart.

Locksley would leave Texas after two uneventful seasons, spending this past year at Iowa Western Community College, where he starred as a quarterback again.

He threw for 20 touchdowns this past season and ran for 20 more in 12 games. He also completed better than 66-percent of his passes, catching the eye of multiple programs including UTEP, NMSU, and Pittsburgh.

But in the end, Locksley decided to return to the state of Texas.

He confirmed his commitment to UTEP in a Twitter post Monday.

The 6’4″ quarterback is expected to challenge Ryan Metz for the starting job at UTEP this season.
