H.S. Hoops: Pebble Hills girls, Americas boys teams grab key district wins
The Americas boys basketball team separated itself from the rest of District 1-6A by going on the road Tuesday night and defeating Coronado by a final of 58-50.
Both teams entered Tuesday night with a record of 5-0 in district play, but now Americas sits alone at the top of the standings thanks to their effort Tuesday.
Coronado’s loss ends their nine-game winning streak that began on Dec. 5 with a win over Cathedral.
Meanwhile, the Pebble Hills girls team scored a huge win at Franklin.
The Spartans defeated the Cougars by a score of 49-39 Tuesday night to improve to 6-2 in 1-6A district play.
Franklin suffered its first district loss but remains atop the league standings with a 7-1 record.
However, the Spartans’ win proves that Pebble Hills, with its first-ever senior class taking the court this year, is a legitimate threat to claim the district title.
