Mayfield High School student wins national award
Mireya Sanchez-Maes, a sophomore at Mayfield High School, was one of 41 students chosen nationwide for the 2018 National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) Award for Aspirations in Computing.
Sanchez-Maes will receive a cash prize along with an all expenses paid trip to the Ritz-Carlton in Charlotte, North Carolina from March 9th to 11th. There she will be recognized for her achievements.
LCPS Superintendent Dr. Greg Ewing said, “We’re honored to have students like Mireya, who are already establishing themselves as leaders at the local, state and national level.”
Each year the NCWIT program recognizes high school women across the United States who demonstrate interest and achievements in computing, proven leadership ability, academic performance, and plans for post-secondary education.
NCWIT Aspirations in Computing Program Director Amy Ludwick said, “With over 3,600 applications, this year’s Aspirations Award competition was the biggest yet. We are so proud to welcome Mireya into the ranks of a very exclusive group of accomplished and inspiring young women who have won the National Award.”
