El Paso man accused of recording minor as victim showered

An El Paso man accused of recording a minor, while the minor was showering, made his initial appearance in federal court today in Las Cruces.

Luis Fernando Moreno, 38, is being charged for producing and possessing child pornography in May of 2013. Moreno will remain in federal custody, pending a preliminary and detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday, January 23.

Sunland Park Police initiated an investigation after responding to an allegation that Moreno allegedly recorded a minor with his cellphone while the minor was showering. Images and videos of child pornography, allegedly created by Moreno, were located in his cellphone and laptop computers.

The statutory penalty for conviction on a production of child pornography charge is a mandatory 15 years and a maximum of 30 years imprisonment.
