1-ounce marijuana buy leads to fatal San Antonio shooting

A 19-year-old man is facing a capital murder charge in San Antonio for what authorities say was a fatal shooting over 1 ounce (28.35 grams) of marijuana.

Bexar County deputies say Joseph Edward Hernandez is accused of the death of 54-year-old Jose Manuel Cintron. Another man, a 22-year-old, was wounded in an exchange of gunfire at Cintron’s San Antonio home.

Authorities say Hernandez went to the house to buy the ounce of marijuana, some kind of altercation erupted and Hernandez pulled a gun and shot the younger man. When Hernandez tried to flee, he was confronted by Cintron. Both men exchanged shots and Cintron was killed.

The wounded man provided information that led to Hernandez. Sheriff’s Sgt. Elizabeth Gonzalez says he was arrested Friday without incident.
