Chihuahua governor demands predecessor’s extradition to Mexico

Chihuahua Governor Javier Corral is asking the Mexican federal government to petition the United States for the extradition of former governor Cesar Duarte. This comes after Duarte allegedly stole and misappropriated funds from the state government and fled the country.

The march for dignity and extradition started at the Bridge of the Americas Saturday morning. Governor Corral had the Juarez mayor and hundreds of supporters with him as they chanted and called out for the federal government to help them as the march and caravan began its journey to the republic’s capital.

The Mexican attorney general’s office said they would request extradition on three counts this week, after Corral announced the march, but the governor said he will still head all the way to Mexico City to demand all of Duarte’s alleged crimes be included in the petition.
They’re expecting the US government to help.

“President Donald Trump wants to deport many working people in the US. He can start with the fugitive that is living here in Texas. There are 11 cases of corruption against the former governor of Chihuahua Cesar Duarte, and he’s living right here in El Paso. SO we are asking respectfully, but with lots of energy, that they deport the former governor who is a fugitive right now, Cesar Duarte,” said Ramón Galindo, state government subsecretary general.

Corral said the caravan will reach Mexico City on February 4, where he plans to speak with federal officials about demaing the full list of alleged crimes be included in the extradition request.
