EPPD: Elderly care worker pawned jewelry stolen from patient
A woman hired to care for an elderly person allegedly stole jewelry from the elderly person and pawned the stolen items at area pawn shops, El Paso Police said.
An investigation by the police department’s Financial Crimes-Special Victims Unit led to the arrest of 41-year-old Laura Patricia Hernandez.
Police said the victim discovered a large amount of fine jewelry missing from her residence and filed a police report.
Detectives located multiple jewelry items belonging to the victim at area pawn shops. The items were allegedly pawned by Hernandez, police said.
Police arrested Hernandez on January 22, 2018 on a warrant charging her with Theft over $2,500 but less than $30,000.
At the time of her arrest, Hernandez allegedly had 13 other traffic and class C warrants.
Hernandez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under bonds totaling more than $20,000.
