UTEP begins spring football practice under new head coach Dana Dimel

A new era continues to take shape over at UTEP.

The Miners began spring practice Monday morning.

It was the first spring practice for UTEP’s new head football coach Dana Dimel.

Dimel will try to turnaround a program that went 0-12 last season.

One of the big question marks for UTEP, is who will be the starting quarterback?

Last season’s starter, Ryan Metz is back for his senior season and will be trying to pick up where he left off, after he returned from a knee injury.

Then there’s the junior college transfer, Kai Locksley.

Both Locksley and Metz got a good amount of work on the first day of practice.

Five quarterbacks will be vying for the starting job.

It’s still to early to tell who the starter will be, but Locksley welcomes the competition.

“You know everybody is getting a fresh start and we have a lot of high energy,” Locksley said.

“Offense came out with a lot of spark and energy and based off the struggles we heard about last year I thought they showed a lot of growth. Everybody was having fun.”
