El Paso recording artist Elia Esparza auditions for ‘American Idol’

Local recording artist Elia Esparza recently announced she auditioned for the “American Idol” singing competition.

Many El Pasoans have seen Esparza perform locally when she performed at the Hyundai Sun Bowl.

Esparaza also performed on “La Voz Mexico” and in front of a national audience on “The Voice.”

Now we can expect to see Esparza on “American Idol.”

“I was filming “The Voice Mexico” and I got a call from them and it was like a private audition, basically, in Dallas,” Esparza said.

Right after filming the voice in Mexico, she flew to Dallas, performed in a few auditions and eventually preformed in front of the judges.

“That audition was like the best audition I’ve done in my whole life,” Esparza said.

Esparza told ABC-7 that, as much as she enjoyed getting the chance to perform, the opportunity does come with challenges.

“I would say one of the biggest challenges is just standing out because there’s so many incredible singers and especially with social media and everything everyone’s posting all the time of how incredible they are,” Esparza said.

Esparza said that, although the judging can be nerve-wracking, it’s her time to shine.

“It feels like all the work that I put in alone in my room with no one listening or watching, I get to show all that in these moments when I get the opportunity,” Esparza said.

During the interview Esparza was polishing her own social media skills by working on a YouTube video blog, or vlog.

Esparza told ABC-7 that, no matter what the outcome is on “American Idol,” she’ll continue pursuing her dream.

“I’ll keep working and keep performing. Nothing has ever stopped me before so whatever happens on ‘American Idol,’ I will continue,” Esparza said.

So does Esparza get the golden ticket to Hollywood? How far does she make it?

You’ll have to watch, “American Idol” premieres Sunday night at 7 p.m. on ABC-7.
