Lowbrow Palace to relocate to Downtown El Paso
The Lowbrow Palace will soon have a new home. The owners plan to relocate to Downtown El Paso.
The mixed-use area will be located at 1101 and 1125 Texas. The owners plan to transform the properties and include food, entertainment and more music.
“Redesign the interior, have a fresh location with better sound quality, a better overall music experience for the audience and also to be able to attract slightly bigger acts that need more capacity within the venue,” Monica Riehl CEo of House of Wondors said.
The new Lowbrow will include an outdoor stage, an amphitheater that will fit up to 2,500 people and a food truck park outside. The property next door will also be redeveloped but owners can’t quite say what they have planned at this time.
“There was about a 20-year period during which downtown seemed to be in steady decline,” UTEP Professor Dr. Tom Fullerton said.
Dr. Fullerton tells ABC-7 downtown is coming back to life.
“There’s a lot of interest in taking advantage of the buildings that are right now under utilized or completely vacant,” Dr. Fullerton said.
Companies are also implementing the idea of mixed-use facilities..
“That enables visitors as well as residents to take advantage of doing a lot of things in close proximity without having to waste a lot of time and transit,” Dr. Fullerton said.
“I think the relocation of lowbrow palace will bring business, definitely more foot traffic to this part of El Paso,” Riehl said.
City officials told me they are also in the process of finalizing incentives for this project. The Lowbrow is hoping the project will be approved for demolition in the upcoming city council meeting. They will begin demolition and hope to have the new lowbrow up and running four months after that.
