Women’s Basketball: Seattle University dominates NMSU in WAC semis

The NMSU women’s basketball team got off to a slow start Friday in the WAC Tournament semifinals and never recovered against Seattle University.

The Redhawks (17-14) jumped out to an early 8-1 lead and never looked back as they easily defeated the Aggies 84-61 to advance to the WAC title game against CSU Bakersfield.

NMSU (18-12) trailed by 27 points at the half and was never able to threaten Seattle in the second half.

The Aggies and Redhawks split their first two meetings during the regular season with each team winning on its home floor. But it was never close when the teams met in Las Vegas Friday.

Kallin Spiller notched a double-double for Seattle with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Additionally, Alexis Montgomery recorded a double-double of her own with 16 points and 10 boards. Four of the five starters for the Redhawks scored in double figures.

Gia Pack and Brooke Salas scored 18 points each for the Aggies. NMSU, however, was hurt by a lack of depth in the game as only five players scored.

The Aggies had won six games in a row entering Friday’s contest.
