Chief Technology Officer at Clint ISD accused of stealing dozens of districtIPads

Detectives with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Clint Independent School District employee accused of stealing nearly 150 IPads from the district.

On March 15, 2018, investigators charged 37-year-old Philip Andrew Acosta with theft of property.

Investigators said Acosta is the Chief Technology Officer for the Department of Technology and Information Services for Clint ISD.

Clint ISD officials reported approximately 150 Apple IPads were stolen from several schools throughout the district.

Investigators allegedly learned Acosta was “selling the stolen IPads,” a news release from the sheriff’s office states.

A search warrant was obtained for Acosta’s residence and vehicle on March 15, 2018, resulting in the discovery of several Clint ISD stolen tablets, investigators said.

Approximately 100 IPads have been recovered by investigators, all linked to Acosta, the sheriff’s office said.

Acosta was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $75,000.00 bond for the offense of Theft of Property over $30,000 and under $150,000.

The sheriff’s office is asking if anyone bought an IPad or any other electronic device from Acosta to please contact detectives at 915-851-3287.

The sheriff’s office said anyone who bought an IPad with school district markings from Acosta or any other Clint ISD employee is in possession of stolen property.
