Thousands celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

Thousands headed out to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Saturday.

The holiday is said to be celebrated in more countries than any other national festival.

ABC-7 crews hit the streets and spoke with partygoers.

“It’s a amazing, it’s a great environment, like the community coming together and having a good time,” reveler Scott Johnson said.

ABC-7 visited the Hoppy Monk Bar were hundreds walked through the doors throughout the day.

Many enjoyed music and green beers, but ABC-7 also went to the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Kermez where the Rev. Trinidad Fuentes explained that Saint Patrick was born in Britain and kidnapped by Irish raiders.

Fuentes said Patrick escaped, but went back to Ireland to spread Christianity.

Fuentes also explained the meaning of the shamrock.

“The Trinity, the blessed Trinity, three persons in one God — that’s our faith in the Catholic Church, and that’s what the shamrock meant. And he used that shamrock to explain the Trinity. It was one plant, but three leaves,” Fuentes said.
