One injured after package explodes at FedEx facility
One person was injured when a package exploded at the FedEx ground facility in Schertz overnight, authorities said Tuesday.
The incident occurred just before 12:30 a.m. in the town that is about 20 miles northeast of San Antonio.
The Washington Post is reporting that law enforcement officials said the package was believed to be bound for Austin. The Associated Press is reporting that federal agents said this package is likely linked to attacks by what they believe is a serial bomber. The latest package explosion comes about 24 hours after an explosion in Austin that injured two men.
The ABC affiliate in San Antonio, KSAT, reports that about 75 employees were working at the facility when the package exploded. One person was injured but treated at the scene.
KSAT reports that the FBI is leading an investigation that includes the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well as Schertz police and the San Antonio Police Department bomb squad. Officials said the scene has been secured.
