Man, woman shot to death near Hatch

Detectives with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the deaths of two people found shot to death inside a home, officials said.

“Right now, there are a lot more questions than answers,” said Kelly Jameson, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office. “We hope to fill in the blanks as this investigation continues.”

The bodies were found in the community of Garfield, north of Hatch, investigators said. The sheriff’s office has ruled out a murder-suicide and is pursuing the investigation as a double-homicide.

“We’re looking at every angle of this investigation from who these two people associated with, what their last known contacts were, who they might have talked to,” Jameson said. “Very basic evidence collection.”

ABC-7 located a mobile home with crime tape, a trampoline and children’s bikes at the front of the home. Authorities would not confirm if children were home at the time of the crime.

In the rear of the mobile home, there is a broken sliding glass door and shards of glass all over the carpet and porch of the home. Jameson could not confirm whether the broken glass was from gunfire or if the exit was the assailant’s escape route.

Sheriff’s deputies and a Hatch police officer were dispatched to the 3200 block of Carriage Hills just before 9 a.m. Sunday.

When they arrived, they found the bodies of a man and a woman who appeared to have been shot to death. The woman was later identified as Vanessa Rodriguez Mora, 32, and the man was identified as Mario Cabral, 34.

Sheriff’s detectives say the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made.
