Chihuahuas announce 2018 opening day roster

Pitchers

Jonathan Aro: The 27-year-old has previous Major League experience with the Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners.

Buddy Baumann: The 30-year-old pitched for both the Chihuahuas and Padres in 2016 and 2017.

Colten Brewer: The 25-year-old was signed by the Padres this offseason after previous time in the New York Yankees and Pittsburgh Pirates organizations.

Chris Huffman: The 25-year-old returns to El Paso after pitching for the Chihuahuas in the 2017 Pacific Coast League playoffs.

Brett Kennedy: The 23-year-old had a 13-7 record and 3.70 ERA at Double-A San Antonio last season.

Eric Lauer: The 22-year-old divided last season between High-A Lake Elsinore and Double-A San Antonio and was a California League All-Star.

Kyle Lloyd: The 27-year-old pitched for Double-A San Antonio, the Chihuahuas and the Padres in 2017.

Walker Lockett: The 23-year-old appeared in postseason games for El Paso in both 2016 and 2017.

Michael Mariot: The 29-year-old has MLB experience with the Kansas City Royals and Philadelphia Phillies.

Phil Maton: The 25-year-old was the reliever on the mound when the Chihuahuas clinched the 2016 Pacific Coast League championship in Oklahoma City.

Trey Wingenter: The 23-year-old made his Triple-A debut last season in the Pacific Coast League Championship Series versus Memphis.

Eric Yardley: The 27-year-old pitched in seven Major League Spring Training games for the Padres this year.

Position Players

Dusty Coleman: The 30-year-old has MLB experience with the Kansas City Royals and the Padres.

Allen Craig: The 33-year-old was a Major League All-Star in 2013 and played in two World Series with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Diego Goris: The 27-year-old is among the Chihuahuas all-time leaders in games played with 214.

Javy Guerra: The 22-year-old was acquired by the Padres in the same 2015 trade with Boston that sent former Chihuahuas Carlos Asuaje and Manuel Margot to San Diego.

Travis Jankowski: The 26-year-old has spent the last three seasons in the Major Leagues with San Diego.

Raffy Lopez: The 30-year-old was on the Padres 2018 Opening Day roster and has previous MLB time with the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Toronto Blue Jays.

Stephen McGee: The 27-year-old was signed as a minor league free agent by the Padres in 2016 after previous seasons in the Los Angeles Angels and Miami Marlins organizations.

Shane Peterson: The 30-year-old was signed by the Padres as a minor league free agent in December and has played in the Major Leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers, Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays.

Franmil Reyes: The 22-year-old led the Padres’ minor league system in home runs in 2017, hitting 25 for Double-A San Antonio.

Nick Schulz: The 26-year-old split last season between El Paso and Double-A San Antonio.

Luis Urias: The 20-year-old native of Magdalena de Kino, Mexico led the Double-A Texas League in on-base percentage and is ranked the No. 3 Padres prospect by MLB Pipeline.

The roster is subject to change prior to the Chihuahuas first game on April 5 in Las Vegas. El Paso’s home opener is on April 10 versus the Salt Lake Bees.
