After being charged with animal cruelty woman says she was wrongfully accused

Police say they arrested 19-year-old Joshua Christensen after leaving a puppy unattended in the bathtub before shaking it and dropping it on its head — causing head trauma.

Alisyn Preston,19, was charged with failing to get the puppy properly treated in a timely fashion.

“I wasn’t home at the time of the incident. When I got home I did everything I could as fast as I could,” Preston said.

Preston said after the incident she took her dog to a firehouse where they provided the dog with oxygen.

“Once we got to the emergency vet I provided as much care as I could. The one thing I didn’t provide was the X-rays which they told me were optional and I wouldn’t need them,” Preston said.

Preston said she went back to the veterinarian several times and no one had mentioned that the x-rays needed to be done.

“They are basically telling me that I am basically going to jail because I didn’t provide any care but I did and I have the proof of too,” Preston said.

Preston showed ABC-7 receipts with charges for the dog’s care.

“The 21st I provided care, on the 22nd, and the 23rd they let me pick her up and I paid the rest of the $700 remaining balance,” Preston said.

Preston said after the story was made public she’s received death threats.

“I had somebody show up at my door this morning and when I answered it they started screaming at me telling me that I belonged in jail and that I needed to kill myself. It’s just been a really frustrating process with everything because I’m innocent. I haven’t done anything wrong and it’s affecting me and my child and my husband now,” Preston said.

Preston says her dog is doing good. She will likely face a judge in this case. The courts denied giving her back the dog so it is in foster care and Christensen no longer lives at her home.
