LCPD: Drunk woman crashed car into pole; injuring 3
A Las Cruces woman was allegedly driving while intoxicated when she crashed her car Sunday morning, resulting in serious injuries to her and two occupants.
Police say 19-year-old Savannah Ruth Bigelow was driving southbound on Triviz Drive shortly before 3 a.m. when she failed to control a turn and crashed into a large pole near the 2005 block of Triviz.
The vehicle had two occupants while the front-seat passenger, a 19-year-old woman, was found on the ground with injuries to her head and right leg, police say.
The driver and the rear-seat occupant were found pinned inside the car, according to police.
The three occupants were transported to a local hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries. They remain hospitalized and a warrant was obtained for Bigelow’s arrest.
Police say they learned that the driver and both passengers were intoxicated and empty bottles of whiskey and rum, along with a quarter-full bottle of cognac were found in the car.
Bigelow is charged with one count each of aggravated driving while intoxicated causing bodily injury, child abuse causing great bodily harm, reckless driving causing great bodily injury and operating a vehicle with an open container of alcoholic beverage.
A portion of Triviz Drive, between Bentley Drive and north Main Street, was closed to traffic for most of Sunday morning while police investigated the crash.
