Nationwide warrant issued for wanted sex offender from Las Cruces

A nationwide no-bond warrant has been issued for a wanted sex offender from Las Cruces.

Oscar Ignatius Russell, 46, has been charged with failure to appear for arraignment after being indicted by a grand jury.

The indictment was for failure to register as a sex offender with the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department.

Russell was arrested in April for the same offense. He is required to register as a sex offender under the conditions of a 1991 conviction in Missouri for second-degree sodomy of a 13-year-old boy.

Sheriff’s detectives say Russell is known to frequent local motels and could be staying in a room registered to another person.

He is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs about 300 pounds.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the case agent at (575) 525-8806 or Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority at (575) 526-0795.
