Neon Desert prepping for high temps, attendance
More than 40 international and local acts are set to perform at this weekend’s Neon Desert Musical Festival.
The Downtown El Paso festival is scheduled to start 3 pm Saturday and go through Sunday night.
Like every year, temperatures are expected to be in the high 90s. Saturday’s high is expected to go up as high as 102 degrees.
Neon Desert organizers are expected to set up free water station during the festivals, where attendees can fill up containers.
“Water, water and water,” Neon Desert spokesperson Kevin Hayden said about preparing for high temperatures. “Making sure water is available and putting out the message to drink water.”
Shade will also be scattered around the festival area.
Hayden also talked about the importance of having the festival in the downtown area ever year.
“You just can’t replace the energy and vibe of being in Downtown El Paso,” Hayden said.
Neon Desert had more than 40,000 fans partaking in last year’s festivities, according to the festival. The same amount or more attendees are expected to fill up the downtown area this weekend.
“We love to bring the people into such a great city and such a great location,” Hayden said.
Many streets leading to the festival will be closed starting on Friday and through the duration of the festival. Here’s a map of what streets are scheduled to be closed during the weekend:
