NMSU & Texas Tech will meet in regional round of College World Series
The road to Omaha and the College World Series will begin in Lubbock, TX for the New Mexico State University baseball team.
Monday, the Aggies learned they will play Texas Tech in the regional round of the College World Series.
The game will be played Friday, June 1, at 12 p.m. MT on Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
Fans can watch the game online via the WatchESPN app, a subscription is required.
During the 2018 regular season, NMSU and Texas Tech met twice with the Red Raiders winning both games.
The Red Raiders went on to win the first meeting back in February by a final of 12-0.
The two teams last met on April 3, in Midland, TX, where the Aggies carried a one-run lead into the seventh inning before falling, 2-1.
Monday morning in Las Cruces, the NMSU baseball team held a viewing party for the College World Series Selection Show.
The Aggies are not the least bit intimidated about having to face the Red Raiders one more time.
“We’re playing the best of the best,” Kyle Brandish, NMSU pitcher, said. “Being able to go out and pitch against those guys and all the great hitters in the country it’s going to be fun.”
Brandish is also looking to make the most of their time in Lubbock and hopefully stay on the road to Omaha, Nebraska, the site of this year’s College World Series.
“It’s a dream growing up to play college baseball and making the NCAA Tournament. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Brandish said.
For NMSU head baseball coach Brian Green, it’s been a journey to get his team to this point.
Green tells ABC-7 it was about believing in the process through all the ups and downs.
“You know when you cast out your vision you hope that you can make it come true and you believe in it,” Green said. “Four years later after 11 wins in year one, it’s 40 wins (this year) and we’re going to regionals and it’s a lot of tears.”
