Angels select NMSU pitcher Kyle Bradish in 4th round of MLB Draft
NMSU pitcher Kyle Bradish was selected in the fourth round of the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday.
As the 121st overall selection, Bradish become the highest-drafted player to ever come out of NMSU.
The right-handed starter struck out a program record 140 batters this season, breaking the old record of 107 set by Albert Montoya in 1991.
Bradish also compiled 311 strikeouts in his three-year collegiate career while holding opposing batters to a mere .220 average.
Bradish was a big reason why the Aggies were the 2018 WAC Tournament champions and earned a spot in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
“Another special day in putting the finishing touches on a special season for Aggie baseball,” said NMSU coach Brian Green. “Congrats to Kyle and the Bradish family. Absolutely tremendous people, and Kyle has beyond earned this opportunity.”
This is now the third year in a row an Aggie has been taken in the first six rounds. The junior joins former teammates Marcel Renteria drafted in the sixth round by the New York Mets in 2017 and Daniel Johnson taken during the fifth round by the Washington Nationals in 2016.
Six NM State players have now been drafted in the first ten rounds of the MLB Draft in school history.
Bradish compiled an overall record of 25-8 in his career at NMSU and pitched a total of 272.0 innings.
