EPISD releases list of proposed school closures

The El Paso Independent School District released a list of proposed school closures and plans to hold two meetings to share information and gather input from the community.

Over the next three years, EPISD plans to close Beall, Schuster, Moye, Hawkins, Rivera, Rusk, Alta Vista, Bonham, Johnson and Roberts. The closures are being considered as a response to decreased funding related to declining enrollment.

The community meetings will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 18 and 19 at the EPISD Professional Development Center, 6500 Boeing. Trustees will provide information on the process and proposed plan and hear concerns from community members

The Board of Trustees will formally discuss the proposed closures during the next regular board meeting on June 21.

The proposes closures would happen during the next three years:
2018-2019: Beall, Schuster, Moye.
2019-2020: Hawkins, Rivera, Rusk and Alta Vista.
2020-2021: Bonham, Johnson and Roberts (closures approved under the 2016 Bond)
