El Paso’s USL team signs first big star: Omar Salgado
El Paso’s United Soccer League team still doesn’t have a name or a mascot, but it already has its first star: Omar Salgado.
Salgado, a native El Pasoan, has played for the US and Mexican national teams, in addition to the Chivas organization in Guadalajara and a Major League Soccer franchise.
“We didn’t sign Omar simply because he’s from El Paso, we signed Omar because he’s a great soccer player. He’s a world-class soccer player,” said Alan Ledford, with the team’s ownership group.
At 15, Salgado played with the Chivas organization in Guadalajara, Mexico.
In 2011, he was the first overall pick by the Vancouver Whitecaps of Major League Soccer.
