Burges JROTC competes in national competition

Congratulations to the Burges High School JROTC team after a tough competition at the 2018 National Academic Bowl Championship in Washington, D.C. last weekend.

The team had earned top scores against nearly 1,400 teams around the world to earn a spot in the competition.

Team sponsor Jose Hernandez told ABC-7 that his team, consisting of Camila de Leon, Jeremaiah Davis Bell, Ryan Cruz and Dylan Jimenez, won two of the nine competitions, but did not make the finals.

Hernandez said the team still ranks in the top three percent in the nation.

Burges was among 32 schools from across the United States that decended on Catholic University of America this weekend for the competition.

They were tested in JROTC curriculum, English, math and science.
