Zach Lofton talks about joining Pistons for NBA Summer League

Former NMSU star guard Zach Lofton said Monday he did not expect to get drafted last week, but HE is still ready to impress teams during the NBA Summer League in July.

Lofton agreed last week to play for the Detroit Pistons in the annual summer showcase for rookies and undrafted players.

Although a dozen teams saw Lofton work out leading up to the draft, he was not one of the 60 players selected last Thursday.

“I don’t feel any type of way about the draft,” Lofton told KSTP-TV in an interview Monday. “You know, we knew going in we probably weren’t getting drafted. But I feel like…the draft is over. Now everybody has to go prove themselves.”

The Pistons begin play in the Summer League on July 6.

Lofton averaged just over 20 points per game last season for NMSU and was named a member of the WAC First Team.

He says his goal is clear this July – showcase the skills that made him such a feared player at New Mexico State.

“Just show, not to just the 12 teams that have seen me, but let everybody know, let the world know that I have that type of talent. I have NBA talent,” he said. “So, that’s all I want to show.”
