Three people — including a 13-year-old girl — were murdered, and the man facing charges in the triple homicide on May 31, 2012, still has not gone to trial.
Luis Solis-Gonzalez is accused of killing Cassaundra Holt, 13; Holt’s mother and his ex-wife, Marysol Saldivar; and Saldivar’s boyfriend, Eric Desantiago. Their bodies were found inside a home in east El Paso. The police investigation revealed the murders were witnessed by the 4-year-old son of Saldivar and Solis-Gonzalez.
The attorney for Luis Solis-Gonzalez, Joe Spencer, told ABC-7 there is expected to be a final resolution on the case.
“Every day, just wondering, maybe today. Maybe we’ll get a call, maybe something will happen,” Betty Aguilar told ABC-7 in 2016.
Aguilar is Eric Desantiago’s sister. She and the grandmother of Cassaundra Holt spoke to ABC-7 when the case was on hold while both sides awaited a ruling from a higher court regarding forensic testing of 200 pieces of evidence.
“To me, that’s tantamount to torture. It’s tantamount to torture,” Cassaundra Robinson said about the wait for justice.
Another hurdle that came up earlier this year: if the case doesn’t go to trial before the end of the year, a new judge will oversee the case.
Judge Luis Aguilar did not seek re-election to the bench in the 243rd District Court.
Serena Solis won the Democratic primary election for the seat in March and will not face an opponent in November. She will be sworn in as the 243rd District Court judge in January.
