New Clint Eastwood film, based on WW2…

The new Clint Eastwood movie “The Mule” will partially film in Las Cruces in late July, according to Film Las Cruces.

Film Las Cruces said it helped bring the production to Las Cruces by helping with location scouting, a recent casting call and logistics.

Liason Jom Foley “jumped into action and helped find what the producers were looking for, landing the project for Las Cruces,” said Film Las Cruces Board President Jeff Steinborn.

“The Mule” is a crime film directed by Clint Eastwood and written by Nick Schenk, based on the true story of Leo Sharp, a World War II veteran who becomes a drug dealer and courier for a Mexican cartel. Reports online state Bradley Cooper and Lawrence Fishburn will co-star.

Steinborn said landing an Eastwood production will only increase the City of Las Cruces’ visibility in the film industry.

It is also expected to benefit the local economy. “Large film productions employ good size crews and spend money at a wide array of local businesses,” Steinborn said, “This film production will likely fill over 1,000 hotel room nights and spend thousands of dollars in local businesses.”

The production is expected to hire local workers to work on set, Steinborn said.
