Families to receive free backpacks, food pantry items at Back-to-School Luau Saturday

Summer break is coming to a close for some school districts, so to celebrate the back-to-school season, El Paso Health is hosting a luau party offering free items, entertainment and information for families.

The Back-to-School Luau Health Fair is Saturday, July 14 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the El Paso Health offices located at 1145 Westmoreland Dr.

The health fair will focus on health screenings for adults. At least 1,000 backpacks will be given away, as well as 200 mobile food pantry bags – about one per family. Families will also be able to learn more about car seat safety during onsite demonstrations.

The luau is more than just a health fair. Other activities include jumping balloons, a dunk tank, face painting and games for children. Law enforcement vehicles, including a fire truck and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Show H2 Hummer, will be onsite.

The Latino Medical Student Association at Texas Tech will present a “Teddy Bear Clinic,” plus special appearances will be made by Disney’s Moana, Maui, and the Little Mermaid.

“School will be starting soon, so this event allows El Paso Health to give our guests a jump start on getting ready for with health screenings, new backpacks and pantry staples,” Frank Dominguez, President and CEO of El Paso Health said.
