2 sentenced for Mexican extortion, ransom
Prosecutors say two men arrested in North Texas during a Mexican kidnapping and ransom scheme have been sentenced to U.S. prison for extortion.
Nygul Anderson and Albert Gonzalez, both age19, were sentenced Monday in Fort Worth. Anderson received three years. Gonzalez must serve 30 months.
Both were convicted of conspiracy to use an interstate facility to commit a travel act violation, conspiracy to possess extortion proceeds and money laundering.
Prosecutors say a person in North Richland Hills last September received threatening calls from Mexico saying the individual’s two brothers were kidnapped in Mexico. The family paid $20,000 and the brothers were freed.
The same person later received another call demanding $100,000 or the brothers would be killed.
The suspects were arrested trying to pick up that ransom in Fort Worth.
