YWCA of El Paso holds open house for Early Learning Academy
The YWCA of El Paso is trying to get the word out on the importance of early education for younger children. They held a back to school ceremony for the UTEP community Wednesday morning to talk about what the program has to offer and how important early education is for young children.
“We do academic and social and emotion development of children and what we do is we get children ready for school,” said Dr. Sylvia Acosta, CEO of the YWCA of El Paso.
The YWCA’s partnership with UTEP helps them provide on campus care for UTEP students, faculty and staff.
“Childcare like this on the campus is absolutely critical. We know of many young people who weren’t able to pursue their degrees because they didn’t have a way of taking care of their children and this center has really just been terrific,” said UTEP President Dr. Diana Natalicio.
The YWCA’s Early Learning Academies teach children as young as zero years old.
“You’re thinking what could they possibly learn and that’s actually when they’re sponges. We teach them stimulation techniques so that they can get to learn from their environment, and then at 3 or 4 they’re learning now shapes and colors so by the time they get to school they’re able to be more well rounded and ready for school,” said Acosta.
