Hunt Family Foundation donates $2 million to help with Sun Bowl renovations
UTEP got a big boost Thursday from the Hunt Family Foundation, which donated $2 million to help with Sun Bowl renovations.
The school originally announced renovations totaling around $15 million back in April in what was deemed “A New Vision” for the Sun Bowl.
The gift will be used to help launch construction of the Hunt Family Sky Lounge on the west side of the stadium. That lounge is expected to be completed by the fall of 2019.
“We are grateful to the Hunt family, longtime supporters of The University of Texas at El Paso, for their generosity as we continue to modernize this iconic campus venue,” President Natalicio said. “The Sun Bowl, which recently celebrated its 50th birthday, has been the site of many memorable moments for all of us at UTEP and in the surrounding region. The Hunt family’s generous gift will help ensure that this facility continues to serve the campus and community as a premier venue for major events for many years to come.”
The Hunt Family Foundation was founded in 1987 by Woody and Gayle Hunt and supports organizations at the local, state, and national levels.
“We are so grateful to the Hunt family for their contribution to the Sun Bowl revitalization,” UTEP Director of Athletics Jim Senter said. “The excitement for this project continues to grow, and it wouldn’t be possible without the support of tremendous community partners like the Hunt family.”
UTEP’s plans for the Sun Bowl include additional premium seating options, concourse improvements, and more food and beverage choices.
