NMSU wins second game in a row, beating Liberty 49-41

The NMSU Aggies defeated the Liberty Flames in a shootout at Aggie Memorial Saturday night, 49-41.

Josh Adkins tallied 402 yards passing to go along with four touchdown passes and no interceptions to lead an explosive Aggies attack.

After suffering four straight losses to begin the year, the Aggies have now won back-to-back games. They defeated UTEP two weeks ago before a bye week gave them extra time to prepare for Liberty.

Incidentally, NMSU and Liberty will play again later in the season at Liberty on Nov. 24.

NMSU surrendered the first touchdown of the game would but strike back a few minutes later on Christian Gibson’s first touchdown run of the game from a yard out. The Aggies would never trail the rest of the way.

Gibson later added a 66-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to give NMSU a two-score cushion. Gibson racked up an impressive 127 yards on just 13 carries in the game.

Wide receiver O.J. Clark also compiled some big numbers including 10 catches for 145 yards and a score of his own.

In total, NMSU’s offense recorded 573 yards and did not commit a turnover in their most impressive performance of the year. The NMSU defense, however, surrendered 524 total yards but did force the Flames to commit two turnovers.

The Aggies will play at Louisiana next week with a chance to win their third game in a row.
