Group renovating Paso Del Norte hotel searches for new contractor
Renovations for one of the most iconic buildings in downtown El Paso have been put on hold.
The Meyers Group, the real estate development company that purchased the hotel, confirmed with ABC-7 that it is searching for a new contractor.
A statement released by a spokeswoman for the Meyers Group said:
“Our highest priority is to deliver Hotel Paso Del Norte on or before the dates we have promised to the community in a manner consistent with 4-star quality. At this time, we are in the process of changing our primary general contractor. The new contractor we will select will offer the highest standards and efficiency we and the community expect, demand, and deserve.
The Meyers Group is prepared to accept only the best in quality and professionalism. Our choices continue to support the goals of a 4 -star, high-quality convention center hotel.”
When ABC-7 went to the construction zone Wednesday afternoon, no work was being done.
The Meyers Group is receiving $24.3 Million in state incentives, and the city is providing a maximum of $6 Million in the form of grants.
“As of right now, the Meyer’s group is still in compliance for this project,” said Israel Irrobali, with the City’s Economic Development Department. “B ased on the agreement, they have to have the building completed and a certificate of occupancy by August of 2020.”
ABC-7 reached out to InterServ, the contracting firm hired by the Meyers Group. A project manager for the group did not want to comment on the separation, but confirmed that construction stopped on Tuesday.
According to the Paso Del Norte website, the hotel is scheduled to open in April 2019.
