Police: Man allegedly stabbed ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend
One man was hospitalized after police say a man stabbed him Wednesday evening. The suspect was arrested after he was initially detained by churchgoers.
The suspect, 22 year old Nicholas Bravo, is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.
Las Cruces police were called out to a report of a stabbing on the 800 block of Foster Road just after 7 PM on Wednesday. Officers found a 22-year-old man with three puncture wounds to his torso. He was transported to MountainView Regional Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say the victim was approached by Bravo from behind when walking along Foster Road with his girlfriend. Police say there was a brief foot pursuit and the victim fell to the ground. Bravo then allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife. Police later learned that Bravo is the woman’s ex-boyfriend.
Police say Bravo fled to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, where he allegedly tried to wash away blood from his body and clothes in the church’s bathroom. Parishioners detained Bravo and police found the alleged stabbing weapon near where he was detained.
Bravo was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center and he is initially being held without bond.
