Steven Montez added to Manning Award watch list

Former Del Valle quarterback Steven Montez was recognized as a mid-season addition to the Manning Award watch list Thursday.

Montez was not included in the preseason award watch list but his play so far this season has been nothing short of stellar.

Montez has led Colorado to five wins in their first six games this season and has completed 70.5% of his passes. He’s thrown for 1,590 yards to go with 11 touchdown passes and just three interceptions at the midway point of the regular season.

The award is presented to the nation’s top quarterback by the Allstate Sugar Bowl after the national championship game. It is the only award of its kind that factors in a quarterback’s bowl game performance.

The Manning Award was created in honor of Archie, Eli, and Peyton Manning.

Colorado is looking to bounce back against Washington on Saturday after suffering its first loss of the season at USC last weekend.
