Former amateur boxer facing battery charge in Las Cruces

Las Cruces police arrested a former amateur boxer and current Doña Ana County Detention Center officer.

Sammy DiPace, 28, was charged with battery of a household member, according to court documents.

According to the Las Cruces Police Athletic League, DiPace earned 14 national titles as an amateur boxer, including two gold medals at the Police Athletic League championships.

Police accuse DiPace of striking one woman multiple times on the right side of her head. According to the department, the former boxer also allegedly hit another woman on both sides of her face.

DiPace is no longer behind bars, according to the detention center website.
