Burges High School Basketball team

With high school basketball starting in a couple weeks, teams in the Borderland have already started lacing up their shoes. You can hear the sound of the ball being dribbled off the hardwood and players getting ready to hoop.

We went to Burges High School to check on the mustangs and see their super star, Tristen Newton and the rest of his team.

The Burges Mustangs have had a great team the past three years. Making it to the playoffs in each. The Mustangs lost by only a couple points two years ago in the Elite Eight, knocking on the Final Four’s door.

This year they look to go even further then last years disappointing second round exit.

Star Tristen Newton wants to get his team there any way he can. Even playing without his talented older brother for the first time.

This is what Newton had to say, “Most of the time they talk about my energy and my effort. So Im trying to play hard the whole game. Ill try to score if I need to, but Ill try to look for my teammates mostly.”
