NMSU falls at Texas State to drop to 2-7 on the season

NMSU had dreams of returning to a bowl game, but Texas State had other ideas, handing the Aggies their seventh loss of the season Saturday.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter before NMSU rallied to tie it in the second quarter.

Two field goals and a Jason Huntley five-yard touchdown run helped the Aggies tie the game up, but Willie Jones III found Javen Banks for another Bobcats touchdown with about a minute to go in the second quarter, putting Texas State up 20-13 at the break.

The teams would then trade touchdowns in the third. Shane Jackson of NMSU returned a fumble 34 yards for a score, but it wasn’t enough as the Aggies fell by a score of 27-20.

The Aggies did rack up 428 yards of total offense to Texas State’s 343, but the Aggies were unable to score in the fourth quarter en route to their third consecutive loss.

NMSU fell to 2-7 on the season while the Bobcats improved to 2-6.

The Aggies return home next week to host Alcorn State.
