Las Cruces woman gets into argument with boyfriend; allegedly stabs him with craft knife

A Las Cruces woman was arrested after an argument with her boyfriend ended when the woman allegedly stabbed the man’s hand.

28 year-old Sarah Hernandez is charged with one count of aggravated battery against a household member and a misdemeanor count of battery against a household member, following the incident that took place in the early morning hours of November 6, 2018 on the 800 block of Morton Lane.

Investigators with Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office say an argument broke out between Hernandez and her 28 year-old boyfriend about relationship issues after she arrived home late. At this point, Hernandez’s boyfriend alleges to detectives she armed herself with a craft knife.

According to investigators, Hernandez allegedly attempted to cut herself with the knife, then proceeded to stab the victim in the hand. The Sheriff’s Office also say her boyfriend also received a puncture wound to his left thigh and several bite marks on his arms.

Deputies were notified of the alleged assault after the victim called his mother with his cellphone, who in turn called authorities.

The victims two small children were allegedly sleeping in another room at the time of the assault.

Upon the arrival authorities at the scene, Hernandez was transported to a local hospital and treated for superficial wounds. The Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office did not offer information on the status of the victim.

Hernandez was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center after her release from the hospital.
