EPPD: Would-be burglar dies while breaking into Central El Paso home

A would-be burglar died while breaking into a home in Central El Paso, police said.

Investigators identified the man as 28-year-old Javier Tellez Jr.

Police said the break-in happened at a home on the 3000 block of Copper at 5:22 p.m. on November 6, 2018.

“Somebody broke into the house, broke a window, and there was blood all over… And they also had the bathroom locked, from the inside,” said neighbor Frances Shaw on what her neighbor told her.

The homeowner says that he found pools of blood down the hallway between his kitchen and his bedroom after noticing that the glass door that led to that hallway was broken.

The owner discovered blood covering his bedroom door, that is when he says he called his wife and then went outside to call police.

The officers entered the residence and found the body of man inside. Investigators determined the man, later identified as Tellez Jr., had lacerated his arms on the broken window while entering the residence.

Unable to stop the bleeding, the man died, police said.

Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit are investigating the break-in, police said.
