EPPD identify suspect in Thanksgiving Day killing
UPDATE: An El Paso Police Spokesman has confirmed Jason A. Gibson is the suspect accused of killing an El Paso man and wounding the victim’s son and wife.
Police say Gibson, 38, was arrested by U.S. Marshals and Daytona Beach Police “after a brief chase” in Daytona Beach, Florida Tuesday afternoon.
WNDB and the News Journal in Daytona Beach both report Gibson’s photo was distributed by police on social media and identified as a “violent fugitive from Texas.” In the wake of the shooting, El Paso Police said the suspect was not a threat to the community. The news outlets in Daytona Beach report the suspect was considered “armed and dangerous.”
Daytona Beach Police say Gibson was wanted for homicide in Texas and kidnapping in New Mexico.
On November 22, 2018, someone broke into the home at 8324 Signal Peak at about 3:50 p.m.
Police said the suspect shot 58-year-old Juan Salas, 58-year-old Lorenza Salas and 24-year-old Johnathan Salas.
Juan Salas died at the scene, police said. Lorenza and Johnathan were hospitalized with critical injuries. ABC-7 spoke with a close relative of the Salas Family. The woman said reports Johnathan has been taken off life support are incorrect. She said the family has no plans to take Johnathan off life support for the time being.
This is a developing story. ABC-7 will update this article as we get more information on the suspects and the two shooting victims who remain hospitalized.
