First weekend of 2019 starts with a 27-hour closure
The first weekend of the New Year is scheduled to start with a 27-hour closure in west El Paso.
Interstate 10 East is planned to shut down from Redd Road to Sunland Park Drive from 3 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6 to to 6 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7.
Drivers will be detoured off Redd to Doniphan Drive in order to reach Sunland Park Drive, where they will be able to reenter I-10 East using the entrance ramp.
If inclement weather comes about, the closure will be postponed one week, until Jan 13.
Overnight closures on North Mesa Street are scheduled to start Monday.
The eastbound lanes will close between Osborne Drive and Remcon Circle from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. until Thursday.
The North Mesa exit ramp from I-10 West and the entrance ramp to I-10 East are also planned to close Monday through Thursday during the same hours.
Drivers exiting at North Mesa from I-10 will only be able to turn right.
Doniphan Drive will be the fastest alternate route, however taking Redd Road to Resler Drive and connecting back onto Mesa Street is another option for eastbound drivers.
The Border West Expressway will close for two nights starting Wednesday, Jan. 2, to Thursday, Jan. 3 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Both directions of traffic will close between Spur 1966 and San Francisco Street.
