EPPD: Man charged with DWI was driving van on a rim; cocaine found inside vehicle

Officers with the El Paso Police Department’s DWI Task Force arrested and charged two men after the spotted a van with a flat tire being driven on its rim.

Police said 43-year-old Ruben Garcia was driving a white 2006 Chevrolet Panel Van north in the 5600 block of Paisano at 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019.

The vehicle had a flat front tire and Garcia was driving the vehicle on the rim, police said.

Officers stopped with the vehicle in the 5900 block of Trowbridge and identified Garcia as the driver and 53-year-old Hilario Granados as the front seat passenger.

Police said Garcia was found to be intoxicated and was placed under arrest. Further investigation revealed Garcia had six outstanding criminal warrants.

The officers allegedly located .2 grams of cocaine in the vehicle. Granados was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance (Cocaine) < 1 gram.

Both men were booked into the El Paso County Jail.
