Cowboys part ways with offensive coordinator Scott Linehan
The Dallas Cowboys announced Friday that offensive coordinator Scott Linehan would not be returning to the team next season.
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett released a statement Friday indicating that both parties believed this was the best way forward.
“This was very much a mutual decision, and there was a great deal of common ground and shared understanding between both of us during our meetings. Scott has had an incredibly positive impact on our football team,” said Garrett in a statement.
Linehan had guided the Dallas offense since 2014, producing the league’s leading rusher in three of his five seasons with the team.
However, the passing attack never ranked above 16th during his tenure. And the team finished 22nd in points and total yards this past campaign.
Nonetheless, Linehan said he was glad to be a part of the franchise these past few years.
“The Dallas Cowboys have been nothing but great to me, first class all the way,” he said. “There’s a reason that they are the most valuable sports franchise on the planet. And I’ll always respect Jason [Garrett] as a coach, and I consider him a good friend.”
