Parkland beats Eastwood in overtime thriller to win outright 2-5A title
Parkland guard Aaron Robinson hit a clutch three with the clock ticking down in overtime to help Parkland beat Eastwood 54-52 to give the Matadors the outright District 2-5A regular season crown.
Eastwood entered the night a game behind Parkland in the standings and was looking to split the title if they could just beat the Matadors at home in the regular season finale for both teams.
The Troopers had a 52-51 lead with just under 20 seconds to go when Parkland’s Oscar Lucero just missed a jumper. However, he hustled and tipped the rebound, allowing the Matadors to recover and hold for one final shot.
With about three seconds to go, Robinson fired a three fading to his left that was nothing but net, giving Parkland a two-point lead.
Eastwood would have one final chance to tie or win the game, but it was too much to ask for with the Troopers inbounding the ball along their own baseline.
A deep pass from the baseline to near mid-court was intercepted to seal the victory and the district title for the Matadors, who finished 17-1 in league play.
