EPISD teachers make house calls

Teachers from Johnson Elementary and Morehead middle school spent their President’s day going from door-to-door to understand their students better.

Teachers spoke with parents about the services their children are receiving at the campus.

Principal of Morehead Middle Armando Gallegos told ABC-7, “I think it’s important that we let the neighborhood know what are the different programs that we have to offer at our school.” He added, “We are a school that has been established for 50 years and many times the families still don’t know what is it that we have at our school, so I think it’s important that we let them know.”

The teachers, along with some students, were divided into teams to head to different neighborhoods that serve the schools. Teachers knocked on doors and conducted short surveys and answered all questioned parents had.

Seventh grader at Morehead Salem Huerta joined her teachers to knock on some doors. She is apart of the National Juniors Honor Society at Morehead and she said she has a lot of friends and the teachers are nice.

“First we say good morning, of course then we ask them if they have any kids elementary age that are going to middle school soon…we give them a flyer or booklet and we tell them about our school,” said Huerta

Students in the El Paso Independent School District had Monday off for teacher staff development.
