1st Armored Division in Fort Bliss names tank after ‘The Rock,’ He replies with a tweet
The 1st Armored Division, stationed at Fort Bliss, is getting some attention from a big Hollywood actor all thanks to a tank that’s built- – like a rock.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been known to be built like a tank, but now thanks to Corporal Dakota Anderson, The Rock is now an actual tank!
“Dwayne Johnson is a beast. His ambition, his work ethic and the way that he works out,” said Cpl. Anderson.
According to Staff Sgt. David Estes, naming each of their tanks is a tradition for all the tankers dating back to the earliest times that tanks were created.
“All of our tanks are nicknamed different things such as Doc Holliday, our tank is The Rock Johnson, another one is named Dapper Dan,” said Sgt. Estes.
When the Black Hawk Squadron 1st Armored Division got the chance to pick a name for their tank it was an easy decision.
“So yea I followed The Rock on Instagram. I was working out a lot. After I qualified on the tank I was able to rename the tank,” said Cpl. Anderson.
“He chose that because it used to be called “Dad Bod” and then being in deployment and working out all the time going from “Dad Bod” to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is like a transformation of something bigger and better like The Rock is,” said Sgt. Estes.
Once the name was decided, the 1st Armored Division tweeted out a picture of the tank.
The Rock shared a picture of the tank to his 136 million followers on Instagram saying in the post,
“I’m sending a salute of respect & gratitude to the Blackhawk Squadron 1st Armored Division
for the honor of naming their tank (the most advanced in the world) Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Heavy duty, bad ass, sexy AF and built to take care of business — but most importantly, thank you all for your service. Grateful to the bone. Sending a salute of respect & gratitude to the Blackhawk Squadron 1st Armored Division and thanking them for their service.”
According to Sgt. Estes, the Brigade has invited The Rock to come see the tank for himself. A visit from The Rock would sure make a few Fort Bliss soldiers very happy.
“I’d be pretty stoked. I named the tank last year. Those were my intentions, for Dwayne to come out and see his tank. It would be pretty cool if he came out here to see it,” said Cpl. Anderson.
