Deputies: Drunk Driver found on train tracks has revoked license, 5 previous DWI convictions

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Las Cruces man accused of driving drunk after police spotted his vehicle stopped on the railroad tracks.

Police with Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway called the sheriff’s office when they noticed the vehicle near N.M. 478 and mile marker 13 at around 5:30 p.m.

When deputies arrived at the scene, the alleged driver of the vehicle, Jose Avalos, allegedly had an open alcohol container in the vehicle. Avalos allegedly deputies he had been drinking earlier.

Deputies learned Avalos has a revoked driver’s license and five previous DWI convictions.

Deputies administed standard field sobriety tests and arrested Avalos. He was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond pending arraignment.
